Parking in Spaces Reserved for Persons with Disabilities
Accessible Parking Permit
Having an accessible parking permit also known as a disabled person parking permit is important for people who are driving with physical disabilities. This parking permit is a laminated card that can be displayed on their vehicle’s dashboard or turned-down sun visor of their vehicle especially when they are traveling. This permit enables them to park in designated disabled parking, stopping, and standing areas. The permit is being issued to the disabled permit holder especially those who are using their vehicles. People who are still using the old version of the parking permit which is the disabled person parking permit may continue to use this permit until the day it expires and that’s the time that they will be issued with the new one which is the Accessible Parking Permit. This new permit is free of any charge to those qualified individuals. For you to qualify for this permit, a licensed physician, nurse practitioner, chiropractor, occupational therapist, or physiotherapist must certify that the applicant has one or more of the physical conditions as detailed on the application form of Accessible Parking Permit.
4 Types of Accessible Parking Permits
These are the following four types of Accessible Parking Permits.
Regular Permit
A regular permit which is the blue one is issued to those people having permanent disabilities and is valid for up to 5 years. Until last 2011, all individuals need to be re-certified before renewing their old permit. After that year, only those individuals whose condition is deemed subject to change need to undergo re-certified before they can renew their permit.
Temporary Permit
This permit is the color red which is issued when your disability is expected to last more than 2 months but is not permanent and this temporary permit is not renewable.
Traveler Permit
A traveler permit which is the purple one is valid only for up to one year and this is to be issued upon the request of individuals who hold a valid accessible parking permit. The permit holders must place this traveler’s permit on their dashboard or their vehicle’s sun visor when leaving it parked at the airport.
Company Permit
The green one which is the company permit is valid for up to 5 years and is issued to those companies and non-profit organizations who lease or own vehicles to transport those people having physical disabilities.
